Акопян Тариэл Арамович (род. 1941)

Tariel Aramovich Hakobyan (born 1941)

Professor at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (2002).

Tariel Hakobyan's main artistic fields are small-scale sculpture, easel painting, and monumental sculpture. The elegant simplicity of his composition and masterful execution imbue his works with vitality, authenticity, expressiveness, and a refined mannerism of form.

Sculptor Tariel Hakobyan was born on May 14 in Gyumri to Aram and Lusaber Hakobyan. He received his primary education in Gyumri and graduated with honors from the P. Terlemezyan Yerevan State College of Arts in 1962. He received his higher education in sculpture from the Yerevan State Theater Institute in 1967. Studying in the workshops of renowned sculptors Ara Sargsyan and Sargis Baghdasaryan, he mastered the fundamentals and skills of professional craftsmanship.

He has been a member of the Artists' Union of Armenia since 1970.

He taught at the Yerevan State Art and Theater Institute.
In 1985, he completed advanced training courses with honors at the Repin State Academy of Arts, receiving an associate professor degree, as well as a degree from the Higher Attestation Committee of Armenia (2003).

The geography of monuments and memorial complexes created by the sculptor Hakobyan is vast – Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, and, of course, Armenia and Gyumri. Such projects by Akopyan as the monument to the fallen heroes of the Great Patriotic War (Ust-Kamenogorsk, 1976), the large-scale high relief "Conquerors of Space" (Yerevan, Armenia, 1984, copper, tuff), the memorial monument "The Tsar's Crown" (Artashat, Armenia, 1989), the portrait bas-relief of the director G. Malyan on the facade of the theater of the same name (Yerevan, Armenia, 2013), are distinguished by interesting compositional solutions, rich decorative design, effectiveness and originality of ideas. The sculptor's special work is a series of portraits: a bust of Andranik Ozanyan (Varna, Bulgaria, 1988), a monument to Artsakh War hero Tatul Krpeyan (Areg, Armenia, 2002), and a monument to V. Hambardzumyan (Yerevan, Armenia, 2009). The sculptor also has a distinctive style in his portraits of many prominent figures, including Beethoven, Chopin, Pushkin, Komitas, Catholicos Vazgen I, Avetik Isahakyan, Charents, Sevak, L. Orbeli, M. Yekmalyan, and V. Teryan.

Tariel Hakobyan's creative career is marked by participation in numerous international exhibitions and biennials in Germany, Hungary, the Baltics, and Syria. Over the years, the sculptor has held special attention in solo exhibitions in Armenia itself. Master Tariel Hakobyan still lives in Armenia and is a follower of the true classical tradition, creating his hand-made masterpieces, making his contribution to the world's cultural heritage.
